Speaking and Listening Across the Curriculum” was initially designed as a response to our world post COVID-19 – students had a harder time communicating face to face and engaging in conversation or just basic interaction with one another. As World Language teachers, that’s what defines so much of our classroom – getting students to communicate (but with the added challenge of another language). With this as a background, Aki and I put together a presentation of some activities and strategies that we have used in our World Language classrooms that would also be helpful to other content areas to get students engaged in the material and also learning the life-long skill of communication. It’s our way of “tricking” students into participating. Although we are both World Language teachers, our presentation is designed to reach teachers across all content areas and has ideas that can be easily adapted for pretty much anyone! This directly relates to PLC Question #2: How will we know if they learn it?
